Well there is nothing like finally getting the project nearly completed and discovering that the concept may not function how it was intended. This is the reality of theory v's practice. I'm not sure if my faulty engineering has an easy solution but will bring it in on wed to get some advice.
If I don't shake the curtain enough, the retraction mechanism will work in the allotted time. However if i get the curtain to shake more the retraction mechanism releases prematurely. One of the problems is that the solenoid that holds the pin for retraction begins to overheat(it needs to be always on at 12 volts) and is less likely to hold over repeated tests.
It is frustrating that after some time putting it together, that at this stage some of it might have to go back to the drawing board. It will be interesting to see if an easier mechanism to hold the curtain closed under pressure from a retraction spring will be worked out.It feels like a 50-50 possiblity at the moment.
