Flex (bend) sensors revisited

During last wks tutorial workshop Justin helped me to setup a small circuit with my bend sensors and get Arduino to read the values. I looked up the documentation for the sensors and apparently the best ones to use for the 3" version (which I've got) are 10K Ohm resistors. So I got a bunch of them from Jaycar and setup a circuit, this time with all three of my sensors. It took a bit of fiddling round, but eventually I got it...now I can play with real data from the 3 flex sensors for my game int… Continue

Flex (bend) sensors

Today in our General Elective meeting Rob gave me the flex (bend) sensors which were ordered from Sparkfun. There's some documentation up online about them (ITP Sensor Workshop) which I've been reading.

Excited about my new flex sensors I decided to test them out as soon as I got home. To my disappointment though I haven't been able to get the readings which I expect to come from the sensor. That is, I tried to recre… Continue

[Wk 10 - Wed 15/7/08] Tutorial workshop

During yesterday night's 3-hour workshop I spent my time trying to mesh together all my little experiments:
--- * Blob detection & distance
--- * Java robot
--- * Processing stores input values captured from Arduino

Since the lab computers don't let you install drivers/software I couldn't get it working with an actual webcam. However, the blob detection also works with static images. So, for the time being I used a static image to replicate input captured from a webcam. With Dan's help I ma… Continue

Blob detection

One aspect of my design prototype involves calculating the distance between the player's hand and the screen (which will be used to determine whether or not particular game environment elements are within the players "reach"). Originally, it was planned that the IR sensor on the wiimote would be used. However, I had many problems with the wrj4p5 library and couldn't build on the sketch, let alone get it working, that I found from this website:… Continue

Java robot revisited

Working more towards the prototype design and away from experimentaion I finished getting the Java robot to type keystrokes in response to input received from Arduino. Below is a link to the successful sketch:

pot_robot_1_p.zip

Arduino captures input data from a potentiometer connected to analog pins 0 & 5, and prints these to the serial… Continue
